Historical Inventions of Isaiah Roberts (1822-1869)

  1. Railroad Improvements and Expansion of Isaiah’s father George’s Railroad. The World's First, operational in 1810, was invented by Isaiah’s Father George. The world’s first locomotive engine and car was still visible as late as the late 1960s before being melted for scrap. Many individuals in this area remember it being there at the worlds first steel scrap yard at the 4th and Court St. in Port Huron, MI. Commercial railroads began with the manufacture of box cars and improved locomotive engines, and the world’s first multiple machine engine powered manufacturing began in 1825 at the Old Port Huron Seaway Terminal. The First Product was Railroad Engines and Boxcars. Designed and developed in 1825 and was referred in history books as a De Witt Clinton type locomotive and passenger cars. Passenger Service began in 1831 with Isaiah’s Grand Trunk Railroad which started the world’s first passenger rail service at Isaiah’s Grand Trunk Railroad Terminal at the end of Griswold St. George and 1 year old Isaiah invented improvements on his existing railroad including the invention of steel and skilled trade machinery in 1822. The world’s first railway station was located in what eventually became the Clorox Building. It was the passenger terminal for Isaiah’s Grand Trunk Railroad and was built in 1831. Destinations of this train probably included Flint, MI, then later on to Chicago. In 1825, Isaiah’s Thumb Settlement Railroad, the first branch of the Grand Trunk Railroad, began serving the Thumb area of Michigan and later on to Northern Michigan. Also in 1833, rail lines were extended north to Harbor Beach. After 1850 as Detroit was totally woods until this date, the connection came between Port Huron and Detroit completing the main branches of the railroad. Isaiah’s Grand Trunk Railroad also serviced the Old Seaway Terminal in Port Huron, MI. This was the first connection of rail service with passenger ferry service. This was the site of improvements of the world's first railroad including the use of machine shop equipment to construct rails, engines, and cars. It was located just north of the New Seaway Terminal, also located at this site, is the sunken world's first steam powered fairy built in 1825. Isaiah’s Grand Trunk Railroad ran west of Abbotsford Road approximately 1 mile in the Ruby, MI, area, and then north to the Northern Thumb area. Later, around 1840, a new major railway car construction facility was started a couples of blocks West of 24th St. on the North side of the main rail lines. The world's first machine shop and Sheet Metal Rolling occurred starting in 1822 in a barn between where the ferry would dock and the Old Seaway Terminal. The invention of sawed lumber commercial buildings with poured perimeter concrete foundations and elevated wood floors occurred at the Old Seaway Terminal in Port Huron, MI. Isaiah, as a very small child, or possibly George, likely invented these first machines, although the level of inventions increases dramatically with each new generation of the world’s only four inventors. By the 1860s Isaiah was building Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railroads. It is believed that the supply train that ran on these tracks during construction originated in Port Huron.

  2. Multiple Machine Engine Powered Geared Driven Manufacturing (1822-1825) and the Machine Shop (1822) - The world’s first machine shop was located in a barn along the St. Claire River between the Old Seaway Terminal and the 1825 River Boat Ferry. The world’s first skilled trade machines were constructed there. In 1825, railroad and ship parts began being manufactured at this location.

  3. Farm Tractor and Thrasher Steam Powered: The Word's First Farm Tractor and Farm Equipment Plant named Port Huron Engine and Thrasher Company opened in Port Huron, MI, in 1851. This was opened by my Great Grandfather, Isaiah Roberts on the site of the previous Mueller Brass Company. Isaiah built his first house at the age of 9 years old and opened his first company in a barn behind his house. The house was located on the west side of 17th St. His first product was steel bottom plows. A line of factories sprang up behind this barn that eventually became the eastern parking lot entrance of the Mueller Brass Company.

  4. Chlorine Bleach: It was invented by Isaiah Roberts and his infant son Delbert northeast of the intersection of 4th and Griswold St. in Port Huron, MI, at Clorox Building in 1869. Isaiah Roberts was also murdered at this building leaving his son Delbert, possibly an orphan. This invention was claimed by Edison after Isaiah’s death. Isaiah spent much of his time at various periods in his life working at this building. Isaiah apparently became divorced from Hillman possibly as early as 1850. I am not certain at this time where Delbert grew up at or what happened to his mother who was likely from the Nicholas Edison family. After the war in 1865, he built a house at Sixth and White St. or the Nicholas family may have built it there when they emigrated from Prussia. Another possibility is that he was born in King of Prussia, PA, and then moved to the Port Huron area as an infant.

  5. Chemistry (Chemical Synthesis): Chemistry was invented in conjunction with Chlorine Bleach in 1869 at Isaiah’s laboratory at the end of Griswold St. on the north side, east of 4th St. This was also the place of the telephone, telegraph, electrical power generation, and the light bulb.

  6. Metallurgy (1805-1822): The invention of malleable iron in 1805 occurred at 10th and Military St. With the invention of farm plows, also came the invention of cast iron and the method of making it including the mixing of carbon into metal. Isaiah’s invention of steel in 1822 established the spectrum of carbon mixing.

  7. Telegraph (1831): It was invented at the Isaiah’s Railroad Depot in Port Huron, MI, at the end of Griswold St. The first telegraph lines ran between this railroad depot and the Old Seaway Terminal, the distance of about four blocks.

  8. Canvas Fabric (1840): It was invented as the first mass produced fabric production. This occurred at the World's First Mechanical Industrial Machine Textile Mill located between Pinegrove and 10th Ave., Port Huron, MI

  9. Cotton Canvas Mass Produced Mechanically: Invented in 1840 along with the mass production of canvass.

  10. Textile Mill canvas World’s First Mechanical Mass Produced Fabrics (1840): They were invented in Port Huron, MI, first used on the conestoga wagons . The Mill was located between 10th Ave. and Pinegrove Ave. on the south side of the railroad tracks, Port Huron, MI.howe and isiahinvented the sewing machine was also invented here or at Isaiah’s Engine and Thrasher Company by Isaiah in conversation with an individual name Howe who was the operator of this textile mill.

  11. Repeating Firearms (1864): Isaiah was the first Texas lawman of the Lone Star State. He brought law and order to the West by establishing armed sheriffs in each town and defeating a 1,000 man Geronimo Indian force that were scalping settlers and stopping the settlement of the West. He accomplished this with only 100 men. 95 of his men were killed after being attacked by the force of 1,000. This opened all land west of the Mississippi for settlement. Isaiah was promised the U.S. Presidency for accomplishing the elimination of attacks on the settlers. However, the country later neglected to elect him as president. Isaiah and his wife were murdered in 1869 at the Clorox Building in Port Huron, MI. The name Griswold St. in Port Huron was derived from the bloody crime scene at the Clorox Building. Also, the cavalry defeated Santa Anna by pushing his forces back into Mexico allowing the formation of Arizona, New Mexico, and California, southern boundary. Isaiah retook the Alamo in Texas from the Confederates leading the charge and was the first man over the wall. In 1864, he lost two children who were ambushed on their way to the Alamo as reinforcements. They are buried here at the historic place of the High Federal. He invented the repeating rifle at the Port Huron Engine and Thrasher Company, in order to give firearm superiority to Texas lawmen and Union soldiers and in the process, defeating the evils of slavery associated with the Confederacy. The world’s first repeating firearm was named the Gatlin Gun after being invented and produced at Isaiah’s Tractor Plant in 1862. Michigan cavalry members rushed to Washington, DC, to defend the capital against advancing confederate troops. Around 1864, 8 inch center fire repeating pistols and 1861 breach loading exploding shell artillery cannons were invented and produced first at Port Huron Engine and Thrasher Company. Also the world’s first cavalry sword that became the model for Wilkinson style swords were invented there. All these weapons were invented by Isaiah in order to win the Civil War for the Union. The invention of these weapons won the Civil War for the Union.

  12. Brick and Mortar Six Story Buildings. By 1840, buildings were being constructed to six stories.

  13. Sewing Machine: It was invented in conjunction with textile mills between Pinegrove and 10th Avenue on South side of the railroad tracks. This was invented by Isaiah in conversation with an individual name Howe who was the operator of this textile mill.

  14. Sword Wilkinson Type (1860): The invention was used by the U.S. Calvary. These swords were likely constructed at the Port Huron Engine and Thrasher Company in Port Huron, MI, along with the first Michigan U.S. Calvary pistols. In 1807-1833, the sword and foil were invented at George’s house along the St. Claire River in Michigan.

  15. Food Improvements Improved Species and Reduced Hard Labor (Invention of the Farm Tractor) and Time Production (1822-1869): The Development of the Cross Bred, Grafted, Propagated, and Genetically Selected, Species of Fruits, Vegetables, and Grains, Fertilizing, and Edibility, of the Improved Species. Isaiah invented the Northern Spy Apple Tree. These inventions occurred at his father’s farm or his father’s property along the St. Clair at 10th Street and the Hillman/Roberts farm and possibly the site of Adrian Hull’s farm.

  16. Furniture Manufacturing: The invention occurred around 1829-1833. The first furniture store was located on Military St. between Pine and Water St. on the eastside in Port Huron, MI. Furniture manufacturing began on factories located on the east side of 4th St. between Court and Water St.

  17. Photography (1895): It was invented at the Photography Studio located on the southeast corner of Pine and Military St. in Port Huron, MI.

  18. Machine Shop, Manufactured Machinery, Sheet Metal Forming, and Lathe (1822): In 1822, a barn was built between the construction site of the 1825 Ferry Boat and the Old Seaway Terminal. It was torn down in 1829 to make a shanty for Isaiah and/or buildings for Isaiah’s buckboard manufacturing barn at the end of Griswold St. about four blocks away after the completion of the Old Seaway Terminal in 1825. The world’s first large railroad engine and car manufacturing works was located in the newly completed Old Seaway Terminal.

  19. Steel Hulled Ships – The “Pierre Marquette” Ferry was the first steel hulled propeller driven ship and was invented in 1855. This ship ferried coal, oil, and passengers, from Pennsylvania and Sarnia, Ontario, to Port Huron, MI. This ship was converted into the World’s First Rail Car Carrying Ferry, invented in 1954-1955. It was constructed at Isaiah’s foundry, the “Port Huron Engine and Thrasher Company”, then taken in sections to Black River at 13th and Water St. for assembly and launching. After this ship, Black River became the world’s first major ship construction facilities producing the world’s only steel hulled ships through possibly until the 1900’s. (?) This ship was docked just north of the Old Seaway Terminal for approximately 110 years.

  20. The Stagecoach was invented around 1864-1865 when Isaiah was in the western United States when he was there with the U.S. Calvary likley Santa Fee New Mexico.

  21. Bank (1829-1833): The Peoples Bank Building was located at the northwest corner of Military and Water Street. Also, the world's first four story construction?

  22. Square City Blocks (1829): At the corner of Fourth and Court Street.

  23. Billiards (1830-1833): This was probably invented at the old Plaza Billiard location on the north side of Water St. in Port Huron, MI, along Black River as this grew into to a waterfront entertainment district also possible at zebra bar worlds first bar at water and military south east corner area.

  24. Chess Old Rules (1829-1833): It was likely invented and first played at the old Plaza Billiard location on the north side of Water St. in Port Huron, MI, along Black River as this grew into to a waterfront entertainment district. Michael Thomas invented the new rules for chess in 1956-1957 with his Uncle along with the game Tic-Tac-Toe in New Jersey.

  25. Farm Bottom Plows Steel: The world’s first steel farm plows were invented by Isaiah Roberts in 1831. The first set is still available for public observation. Production began at the Port Huron Engine and Thrasher Company which was founded by Isaiah 1831. The first factory was likely built as a wood barn but quickly expanded to commercial factory buildings behind Isaiah’s house that was located on west side of 17th St. just south of the former entrance to Mueller Brass’ eastern parking lot. Isaiah had previously invented the concept of residential city blocks around 1830.

  26. River Shanty and Docks Sawed Lumber Wood Floored: After the murder of Isaiah’s parents in 1829 or 1830 by intellectual property thieves, Issah returned to the area along the St. Clair River north of the Old Seaway Terminal as an eight year old orphan and he rebuilt the existing barn that was built in 1822 that housed the world’s first machine shop into two river shanties located just north of the Old Seaway Terminal and lived there with Roberts who were relatives. A river large shanty city was built on docks from just north of Reid Ave. to the Cove along Military St. After 1825, the river boat era began the docking of boats along these docks and a shanty city popped up in 1829 fishing boats also started here.

  27. Bessemer Steel Making Process was invented in 1851-1855 at the Port Huron Engine and Thrasher Company. The process was invented in conjunction with the expansion or establishment of the foundry operations related to the building of the Pierre Marquette Ferry, the world’s first steel hulled ship.

  28. Foundry Major (1831): The world’s first foundry produced all first production of products including bridge iron and railroad related products. In 1851, farm tractor production began. This became the Port Huron Engine and Thrasher Company. Also, copper and brass products began here. After the death of Isaiah, the Hulls took over the factory for a time. This later became Mueller Brass Co. with Delbert Roberts being tricked out of inventions that he wasn’t paid for either.

  29. Two Story Houses: They were invented at the Hillman/Roberts House in 1840 at the corner of Roberts Road and Hewitt Road, in the Avoca area of Michigan.

  30. Railroad Lantern (1831): With the invention of glass came the potential of glass blown animal fat or oil lantern. It was likely produced at Isaiah’s farm implement plant behind his house on 17th St. near Lapeer.

  31. Invention of Primary School (1829): Located just east of the intersection of M136 and Wild Cat Rd. on the south side of the road in the Beard Hills area of Port Huron, MI.

  32. Surveying Nationwide (1840): The entire eastern half of the United States, east of the Mississippi River, was involved in this survey. Also, the establishment of two government centers, the place of the High Federal, High Royal, in N. Ft. Myers, FL, and the Democratic Center including the President and Congress in Washington, D.C. The old capital building was built there in 1840.

  33. The U.S. Post Office was invented in 1837 at the Federal Building on Water St. between and 5th and 6th St.

  34. The world’s first hotel (1830-1833) was the Three Story Annex on Pine St. next to the hospital in Port Huron, MI.

  35. Hospital: The Port Huron Hospital was invented by Delbert in 1830-1833 in the White Subdivision at Sixth and Pine St. in Port Huron, MI.

  36. Boat Houses first two(1860): The Boat House was invented in 1860 and was first constructed at George’s house and a second one just south which was inherited by and used by Isaiah Roberts. After the death of George, two of the center four lots became the Young’s property in 1830 after the death of George. The remaining two of six 50 ft. lots that originally formed his 300 ft. sea walled river front property at 10th and Military St. were occupied by children that Isaiah conceived between 1838 and 1840. Before Isaiah’s marriage to Susan Hillman in 1840, the st claire roberts family and possibly indian families originated from these three cabins, possibly in succeeding generations.By 1869 Andrew Carnegie was the owner of the property attempting to steal the original invention of the oil well and improvements on the oil well that existed at this boat house. He claimed to be the inventor of the oil well by covering over with dirt the existing 1810 seawall he claimed large amounts of isiahs estate after him and edison murdered isiah and wife. He then constructed a new seawall about 20 ft. outside the existing seawall.Carnegee bought the house with the oil wells on it. He apparently started a large oil well field in PA after gaining this information of the derrick and new improvements. These two boat houses housed the first two tug boats they were steel hulled. Some individuals claim that Carnegie simply bought the house with the oil wells on it then claimed his invention of both wells after the sale date. Some say that Edison and Carnegie were a tag team that murdered then stole all of Isaiah’s estate leaving his infant son’s penny less.beginning 1862 these boats may have cattied gatling guns produced at isiahs tractor plant.

  37. Pennsylvania Oil Wells (1859): Andrew Carnegie was rumored to be attempting to steal the original invention well around 1810 from George Roberts and possibly the improvements on the oil well from Issah Roberts in 1859. Apparently a third party denied both of these individuals the 1859 improvements by filing a patent after talking with Isaiah or Andrew or both, or simply just observing the well construction while passing on the train as it is believed that he was a Grand Trunk Railroad employee who likely would have been riding a train within a 100 ft. of the drilling location on a daily basis. These improvements likely included multi-section well casings on steel, the concept of threading the pipe end, the concept of double end steel couplings, the concept of an oil well derrick, the use of sputter and a pipe drive block.

  38. Surveying United States Formation (1840): The survey began at end of Touch Stone Road in North Fort Myers, Florida, where a touch stone was planted on the north side of the road. This established the western boundary of the 3 sided W shaped land parcel that has an identical size to Arlington National Cemetery across the river from Fort Myers in Washington, D.C. The entire eastern half of the United States, east of the Mississippi River, was involved in this survey and up to 2 miles north of Isaiah’s house, the Hillman/Roberts farm.

  39. Steel (1822-1825): Isaiah as a one to three year old child invented steel with his father George at their World’s First Machine Shop and Barn, built in 1822. The addition of carbon to malleable iron was necessary in order to create a harder metal capable of cutting the softer metals. This would have been necessary to machine railroad car wheels, axles, couplers, and engines. They were produced beginning in 1825 at the old Seaway Terminal. This was the discovery of many steels, from mild to tool steels for the construction of the skilled machines and gearing. In 1829, the first stamped or engraved steel manufactured product was Graduated Weigh Scale Balance Beams. The first scales were located at the end of Griswold Street on the south side next to Isaiah’s laboratory. Isaiah had another laboratory beginning around 1831 located at his farm equipment manufacturing plant. The World’s First Steel Yard was located at the southeast corner of 4th and Court St., Port Huron, MI. This was likely a place of another one of the first or second axle weigh scales. The world’s first axle weigh station was located just across the street from this place of manufacturing. Also located next door to this was Isaiah’s and Delbert’s laboratory which became the Clorox Building. Other products included Buckboard Wagon parts and fully assembled vehicles. Isaiah moved back to Port Huron from Avoca in 1829 and lived in a shanty just after his parents died, located just north wof the Old Seaway Terminal.

  40. Battle Ship Single Turret “Monitor” (1861): The Civil War era battleship was launched north of 13th Street and Water Street. It was built, launched, and birthed, in Black River at this location and parts were manufactured in conjunction with Isaiah’s operation of the Port Huron Engine and Thrasher Company located two blocks south of Black River then transported to the river. This ship is also the invention of breach load exploding shell cannons.

  41. Bridge Railroad Trestle Wooden: The invention of the World's First Railroad Trestle Bridge took place approximately 1 mile West of Road Bridge over Mill Creek around 1825.

  42. Bridge Iron Railroad Rotating: The invention of the World’s First Swinging Iron Trestle Bridge took place in 1833. It is uncertain whether this bridge was a road bridge or rail bridge originally. The bridge was located at the mouth of Black River.

  43. Bridge Railroad Trestle Fixed Submerged Piling: This bridge served the Port Huron Engine and Thrasher Company, the Port Huron Paper Company, the Textile Factory, and the Peerless Cement Factory, in 1840 across Black River west of 17th St.

  44. Road Bridge Isaiah’s Mill Creek (1840): This bridge was built by Isaiah when he moved back to the family farm after the seizure of the south end of the farm and the murder of his parents. He placed the bridge outside of the Ford’s land claim approximately a half a mile west of the bridge that his father built.

  45. Road Bridge Multi-Submerged Piling (1831): The bridge was located at 17th and Water in Port Huron, MI. After the death of his parents, Isaiah would have wanted to drive individuals out of business who had murdered his parents and taken over his property including the toll bridges and buggy carriage manufacturing business. So he invented this new type of bridge that could span a hundred and fifty foot wide river with pilings sunk into the bottom of the river for the first time as the existence of this bridge would drastically reduce the revenues for the bridges that were far up river due to the reduction in travel time and distance to get to the north side of Port Huron. The bridges up river were on the Roberts family farm that had been taken over by force. Also he would have wanted to put their stolen buggy manufacturing business out of business so he invented the buckboard wagon and balance beam axle weigh scales in 1831-1832 when manufacturing began at the location at the end of Griswold St. This was closely located to where he invented the river shanty in 1829 just north of the seaway terminal.

  46. Conestoga Wagon Large Covered Heavy Duty (1840-1883): Production began at the Hillman/Roberts farm. European immigrants gathered at this farm and camped out in semi-circles around a lake while preparing their wagons for the perilous journey west. The Oregon Trail began at this farm heading west from the eastern dead end of Graham Road in the Comstock Hills area. The world’s first sawmill sawed the lumber for the construction or these wagons. Isaiah’s new invention of canvas and steel bows (1840) allowed for protection against the elements.

  47. gunboats first 1862 the two steel hulled tug boats at isiahs 1860 house at 10th and military st.and the st clairs cabin likely were outfitted with gatling guns produced at his tractor plant the entire union armyies supplies were likley produced here.

  48. Microscope/Telescope (1831-1833): ? Likely began production at Isaiah’s factories that became the Port Huron Engine and Thrasher Company.

  49. Farm Plows Steel: The world’s first steel farm plows were invented by Isaiah Roberts in 1831. The first set is still available for public observation. Production probably began at the Port Huron Engine and Thrasher Company which was founded by Isaiah 1831. The first factory was likely built as a wood barn but quickly expanded to commercial factory buildings behind Isaiah’s house that was the world’s first sawed lumber wood floor house with a concrete foundation located on west side of 17th St. just south of the present entrance to Mueller Brass’ eastern parking lot entrance. Isaiah had previously invented the concept of city blocks possibly around 1830.

  50. Army Shoes (1861): They were invented at the Port Huron Engine and Thrasher Company or Dalton's Shoe Repair at Grand River Ave. in Port Huron, MI.

  51. Farm Reapers Mechanical (1831): Invented at Isaiah's factory.

  52. Oil Refinery Gasoline (1860) Kerosene (1850): Later, after 1869, this refinery was taken over by Delbert, Isaiah’s son, and became the Mobil Oil Company.1825-1855: The oldest section, oil only, was located on the South side of Black River and the end of Water St. East of the railroad tracks, the newer section was located on the North side of the Black River, just west of the Counterweight Trestle Bridge, near the mouth of the Black River, in Port Huron, MI. Possibly1855 or earlier oil may been coming across using the older 1825 wooden ferry. The World's Oldest Oil Well Fields located in Lampton County, Ontario, provided oil for the Pierre Marquette Ferry that transported oil across the St. Clair River to the Mobil Oil Refinery located in Port Huron, MI.

  53. Gasoline Stoves (1860): likley product of isiahs tractor plant for union troops mess hall.

  54. Kerosene Lanterns (1850) and Animal Oil Lanterns (1831): These lanterns were likely manufactured first at Isaiah’s Engine and Thrasher Company after being conceived for the purpose of railroad signal men use at the end of Griswold St. possibly as early as 1825.

  55. Kerosene (1850): Invented by Isaiah in conjunction with the oil refinery located at the mouth of Black River on the south side in Port Huron, MI.

  56. Gasoline (1860): Invented by Isaiah in conjunction with the oil refinery located at the mouth of Black River on the south side in Port Huron, MI.

  57. Coaches Horse Drawn Bus Type (1833): Construction began on the two concrete barns built by isiah in 1829 as an orphan. The horse drawn coach was first produced at the end of Griswold St across from the grand trunk rail depot.

  58. Parlor Stove and Kitchen Stove Coal or Wood (1819+): This was likely invented in conjunction with Isaiah’s foundry on 17th St. in Port Huron, MI.

  59. Glass (1831): Glass was invented in 1831 during the construction of the first brick and mortar factory building behind Isaiah’s first house on 17th St. The first product produced was glass window panes for this building. This later became Port Huron Engine and Thrasher Company then later Mueller Brass Company.

  60. sugar refined 1830 the pioneer sugar plant was owned by isiahs relatives in croswell.

  61. Castle: Isaiah’s house was built in 1865 and was the invention of the decorative circular castle towers. It was also the first to have individual castle towers with view windows from each tower. It was located at Sixth and White St. on the southeast corner in Port Huron, MI. This inspired the concept of the stone castle. This building likely contained many new types of building materials. This place is possibly the place where Thomas Edison took up residence after the death of Isaiah. It was only three blocks from Isaiah’s laboratory at the end of Griswold St. Isaiah invented the first masonry military fortification walls in conjunction with the Civil War effort of constructing Fort Jefferson in 1861.

  62. Fire Resistant Housing: Among the improvements in 1831, created in conjunction with Isaiah’s house on 17th St. behind his farm equipment plant, was the invention of lathe and slat board wall finishing. This added a layer of cement to the walls and ceilings creating the first fire resistance housing.

  63. Federal Building (1835): Invented at southwest corner of Military and Pine St. in Port Huron, MI, or Water St. between 5th and 6th St. This was also likely the invention of the Patent Office.

  64. The Mansion and Ornamental Architectual Design 1865 including Decorative Wood Workings, Mop Boards, Stair Casing, and Archways: Invented at 6th and White St. with the construction of Isaiah’s house.

  65. Retail Stores and the Military Street Fruit Market Grocery (1829-1831) located just north of the intersection of Military and Griswold on the west side two blocks from Isaiah and Delbert’s house.

  66. Roadway Curbing World’s First (1830): It was installed at 10th and Military St. in Port Huron, MI. It was also installed at Court St. and 4th St. area in Port Huron. Non curbing from this area is available to view anywhere, including Detroit which was established in 1850. The first settlement in Port Huron was George’s cave in 1803 on the banks of the St. Claire River.

  67. Fishing (1829): Starving orphaned Isaiah invented after his parents were murdered and both their properties were taken over. Isaiah constructed the world’s first shanty on the St. Claire River. He invented the metal pronged fishing spear and the hoop net for minnow and smelt dipping, also the fishing hook and line and the concept of net dragging by boats. The largest fishing dock that sprang up was just north of Mason Ave. south to the cove.

  68. (Church Building) World’s First was the Grace Episcopal Church at 6th and Court St. in Port Huron, MI. (Saint) World’s First Saint was Claire Roberts. Isaiah lived in a shanty beginning in 1829. His relatives from the Roberts family built a shanty beside him along the St. Claire River just north of the Old Seaway Terminal.

  69. Fire Insurance (1830-1833): Probably invented at the North American Benefit Association at Military and Chestnut St.

  70. Newspapers: Originally it was invented at Isaiah’s inherited houses at 10th and Military in 1831. The Detroit Free Press claims a start date of 1831 and since Detroit didn’t exist until 1850, the only logical place they could have started was 10th and Military St. in Port Huron. The area was a commercial zone with the same street curbing that matches the commercial area at 4th and Court St. in Port Huron.curbing of this type is only installed in the new youk city area established also in 1830. The Port Huron Times Herald started in 1857 on 5th or 6th St. in Port Huron between Pine and Water St. 1857 was likely the move date of the Free Press to Detroit as the population increase from its founding in 1850 likely warranted the establishment of a newspaper by then. We are not sure if the founding persons of this newspaper were relatives of Isaiah. Also since the newspaper involves media coverage, the possibly exists of cooperative development with Delbert regarding television and radio.
